Turnover this past week was a svelte $35,883,380.60 as 85% of all lots changed hands.  There were 8,939 offered while 7,554 were sold.  The average lot sold for $4,750.25.  The extraordinary numbers are courtesy of Heritage’s Summer Platinum Night Sports Auction that included an exceptional example of an apparently rare, significant and tres boffo baseball card showing Mickey Mantle.  Who ever knew it was possible to get cavities and a multi-million dollar baseball card for a nickel? Such epiphanies then and now, are among the great mysteries of life.
